Researchers Specializing in the UFO Phenomenon
Below is a list of researchers, authors, filmmakers and websites/organizations who have either dedicated the majority of their time to studying the opaque yet highly important and intriguing subject of the UFO phenomenon or have made a significant, positive contribution to this field of research.
Thomas Townsend Brown
–
Thomas Townsend Brown is the scientist now known for his electrostatic flying discs and one who is thought by many to have had to do with the alleged Philadelphia Experiment. I think to many he’s not normally associated with the UFO investigation association he founded in 1956, NICAP (National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena).

He wrote The Case for the UFO (1955), UFO and the Bible (1956), The UFO Annual (1956), and The Expanding Case for the UFO (1957). However, he is perhaps best known these days as the researcher who was allegedly contacted by the mysterious individual, Carlos Allende, in a series of letters detailing the alleged Philadelphia Experiment. Some believe Jessup’s death was highly suspicious and connected to his knowledge of the Philadelphia Experiment (aka. Project Rainbow).

John Keel was the researcher most well-known as the author of The Mothman Prophecies (1975). He lived from 1930 to 2009. Among other books of his are Operation Trojan Horse: The Classic Breakthrough Study of UFOs (1970), The Eighth Tower: On Ultraterrestrials and the Superspectrum (1975), and Disneyland of the Gods (1988). A collection of his writings is the book Searching for the String: Selected Writings of John A. Keel (2014), edited by Andy Colvin. The John Keel website is an homage to John and is managed by Doug Skinner.

On the left side of his blog are listed many video recordings and interviews of UFO researchers Paul has conducted, of such researchers as Richard Dolan, Stanton Friedman, Nick Redfern, Kevin Randle, Steven Greer, and many others. It looks like his blog has been going since 2005, so there is a lot of content there to see. Paul is/was a regular guest on The Paracast show.

– Technoccult – Remembering Mac Tonnies
Mac Tonnies (1975 – 2009) was a Kansas City, Missouri based Fortean style thinker, blogger, author, and talk show guest. Mac wrote his blog, Posthuman Blues, from 2003 until his death in October, 2009. Fortunately for us all, loving friends and readers of his have worked to save his Internet work. His blog, Posthuman Blues, has been archived, his website, Mac Tonnies, is being supported, and a tribute website, Macbots, has been created. He authored the books After the Martian Apocalypse (2004), where he examines evidence for extraterrestrial intelligence on Mars, and The Cryptoterrestrials: Indigenous Humanoids and the Aliens Among Us (2010), which outlines and explores his theory that UFOs and aliens as we think of them are not from “out there” but right here on this planet. Despite being from Missouri myself (Joplin) and as a former passionate Coast to Coast listener (on which he was a one-time guest), Mac flew under my radar. Not until listening to Joseph Farrell being interviewed on The Richard Dolan Show did I hear mention of Mac Tonnies (by Farrell). According to his website he appeared on multiple talk shows and podcasts, including The Paracast (8 appearances), Room 101, Radio Misterioso, and Coast to Coast AM in September 2009, just before his death the next month. I highly recommend listening to the 2009-11-01 episode of The Paracast, where friends of his gathered together to discuss Mac’s friendly personality and the impact he had on the alternative research community.
